The Weekly Bible Study and Prayer Meetings are held on Thursday evenings at 7.00pm. The Bible Study is usually led by the Pastor and it is as the Word of God is opened and questions of faith and practise are answered that the appetite is whetted for the prayers that follow.
All who fellowship at GBC are encouraged to attend and participate in the study of the Scriptures and the corporate prayer life of the church. Individual daily Bible reading and prayer times are essential for every Christian as they seek to ” keep short accounts with God”, and yet there are even greater promises of blessing as the church gathers together regularly for worship and prayer.
At the Thursday meeting there is the opportunity to gather with like-minded brothers and sisters and encourage one another, receive fresh strength and renewing grace and comfort as the Bible is taught and praise and prayers are brought to the Throne of Grace.
At GBC we don’t treat this meeting as an ” optional extra” event, but as an essential activity of great importance as we seek to obey the command of Christ Jesus to be ” salt and light ” in the city of Portsmouth. E. M. Bounds said “Prayer should not be regarded as a duty which must be performed, but rather as a privilege to be enjoyed, a rare delight that is always revealing some new beauty“.
